In the Perm region lies the history of the Permian period, first noted by Scottish geologist Roderick Murchison in 1841. While studying the rocks and fossils of the region, he proposed naming them after the ancient kingdom of Biarmia or Permia. Thus, the Perm region became part of the global geological calendar, alongside the Jurassic mountains on the border of Switzerland and France and the English county of Devonshire.

The Museum of Permian Antiquities, opened in 2011, is dedicated to paleontology and geology. Its collection includes more than two thousand exhibits, and it attracts over 70,000 visitors each year.

The museum's exhibition covers 650 million years of Earth's history and includes fossils of ancient plants and insects, marine creature remains, skeletons of Permian reptiles, dinosaurs, and mammals. One of the most valuable exhibits is the skeleton of a mammoth, discovered in the Perm region in 1927, which has become a symbol of the museum and a favorite among the residents of Perm.

The geological section features minerals and rocks, as well as the Okhansky meteorite. In the interactive hall, visitors can participate in paleontological excavations and find the skeletons of Permian reptiles beneath layers of sand.

The museum also offers an exhibition titled 'Trogontherium Elephant,' dedicated to the expedition to the site of the Trogontherium elephant in the Perm region. Guided tours and classes are held here, along with a popular science lecture series. Additionally, the museum annually organizes the only Children's Paleontological Conference in Russia.
