On May 16, 1995, the City Local History Museum was opened on a voluntary basis. In 1996, it received municipal status after being registered with the Regional Department of Culture, and Vladimir Gennadyevich Kulpanov became its director. Today, the museum includes five halls of permanent local history exhibitions and an exhibition hall. The collection of the 'Oktyabrsk-on-Volga' museum contains 23,641 items, of which the main collection consists of 15,632 items, and the scientific auxiliary collection has 8,009 items. The collections feature archaeological finds, ethnographic and numismatic materials, natural science collections, photographs, rare books, documents, and much more. These exhibits reflect the centuries-old history, culture, and social life of the city.
