The small town of Alapaevsk in the Urals is known for being the place where members of the overthrown Romanov dynasty spent their last months before execution, including the now-famous Orthodox saint Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna. After their arrival in Alapaevsk, the prisoners were housed in the Floor School, named for its location on the border of the town and the field. It is known that their living conditions significantly worsened in June 1918 when they were forbidden to attend church, and preparations for their execution began. Historical data indicates that the prisoners behaved calmly and did not complain about their situation, while Elizabeth Feodorovna set an example of humility.

On the night of July 18, the Bolsheviks staged the abduction of the prisoners, took them outside the city, and brutally killed them. They were struck with a hammer to the chest and back of the head, and then still alive, they were thrown into a mine. Along with Elizabeth Feodorovna, the princes Konstantinovich (Ioann, Igor, and Konstantin), Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich, Prince Vladimir Paley, manager Remez, and nun Varvara perished. During the Soviet era, the Floor School did not attract much attention, and the circumstances of the execution were concealed. Only in the 1990s did pilgrims begin to arrive here, and recently a museum was opened in the building.

The building of the Floor School has retained its exterior appearance. In 2003, a memorial plaque was installed on its wall in memory of the martyrs, and after the museum opened, an exhibition was created telling about those tragic days. The Floor School Museum is an important monument to the victims of the bloody events in our country's history that must not be repeated.
