Museum of Local Merchants Lokalov

Фото 1
The museum is dedicated to the history of the linen manufactory established by the first guild merchants, the Lokalovs. Their textile factory, which began operations in the mid-19th century, became the foundation for the prosperity of the town of Gavrilov-Yam and its surroundings for many years. The museum occupies the building of a former church parish school, built by Alexander Alekseevich Lokalov in the late 19th century, and includes several halls. Interestingly, the museum was created on a voluntary basis and required significant financial investments. In 2015, local residents initiated its creation and independently collected exhibits.

In the museum, you can see original fabrics produced at the Lokalov factory and unique tablecloths made for the royal court and the leadership of the USSR. Visitors can also peek into the atmospheric 'room', a living space where several families of factory workers lived, and into the Lokalov's office. The museum actively engages in educational activities, attracting visitors from all over Russia and abroad who wish to connect with the history of weaving.
