The Alexandrov-Gai Local History Museum was founded in 1998 thanks to the initiative of honored teachers of Russia and local residents: A. I. Demina, V. T. Maslyakova, and Great Patriotic War participant R. G. Ignatieva. The museum is located in an old two-story brick building, built in 1898 by merchant Pavel Kharitonovich Pozdnyakov at the intersection of the central street of the village, now Communist Street, and Asian Lane, now Chapaev Street. In this house, there was a shop on the first floor, and the merchant's family lived on the second. Pozdnyakov also owned a mill at the Pier, known as 'Pozdnyakovskaya.' In March 1919, commander of the Al-Gai military group Vasily Ivanovich Chapaev arrived in Alexandrov-Gai, and his headquarters was located in the merchant's house. During the Great Patriotic War, in December 1941, the Kachinskaya Flight School was evacuated here, and future pilots took theoretical courses here. In August 1942, writer Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov visited the village and met future pilots in the merchant's house.

After the war, the building housed a Kazakh national school, then a kindergarten named after Chapaev. From 1992 to 1996, a music school operated here, later a Employment Center. In 1998, when the building turned 100 years old, it was decided to open a local history museum in it. Previously, in November 1983, a local history room was opened in the House of Culture, and all exhibits were transferred to the museum. The first director was Valentina Nikolaevna Kuvaldina, who collected numerous exhibits, materials about fellow countrymen, war participants, as well as about the flora and fauna of the region.

The museum features halls of military glory, an ethnic hall of Russian culture of the 20th and 21st centuries, halls of Kazakh and Tatar cultures of the 19th and 20th centuries, history of the Civil War, fauna of the Al-Gai steppes, household items, and an exhibition hall. The museum grounds host the main types of flora of the Al-Gai steppe. Museum staff carefully collect historical materials and photographs, arrange them in albums and stands, and preserve items and exhibits donated by fellow countrymen.

The museum is constantly replenished with new exhibits, and currently, there are about 4,000. Up to 5,000 people visit the museum annually. As part of the national project 'Culture,' the museum team prepared a traveling exhibition 'Development of the Saratov Region and District over 80 Years.'
