Kazan Icon Museum in Kazan

Фото 1
The Kazan Icon Museum is a unique place worth visiting for both residents and guests of Kazan. It houses icons created over a century ago in the workshop of the Kazan Mother of God Monastery, one of the oldest and most famous in the Middle Volga region.

In the museum, you can see Kazan icons of the Mother of God, made after the image of the revealed icon of the Holy Mother of God of Kazan. The nuns signed their works, indicating their resemblance to the main Kazan shrine. Thanks to these icons, we can imagine what the icon looked like, found after the fire in 1579, in the late 19th century.

The museum also features copies of icons made in the monastery workshop, which are associated with miraculous events in the history of the Kazan region, such as salvation from the plague or deliverance from the troops of Stepan Razin.

The museum's collection includes icons of significant cultural and historical value. These works, created by the nuns, are linked to famous events and personalities, and were often commissioned and gifted for special occasions. Gifts with icons were sent not only throughout the Kazan province but also to the capitals of the Russian Empire.

The museum is equipped with modern facilities that allow visitors to organize their own tours. Here, one can enjoy solitude with the icons or study each exhibit in detail, learning more about the history of Kazan, the Kazan Mother of God Monastery, and its workshop.
