Stone Museum in Ivanovo

The Stone Museum in Ivanovo has been operating since 1992 based at the school-museum "Litos-CLIO." Its collection and funds contain over 30,000 exhibits gathered over 32 field seasons. Staff and students of the school-museum have conducted more than 100 geological, paleontological, and historical-local studies expeditions covering areas from Baikal and Mongolia to Northern Timan and Khibiny. The museum features several halls showcasing remarkable mineral specimens from across the country. Since January 2017, a planetarium has also been operating at the school-museum.

The museum hosts tours, expeditions, and educational events. The Ivanovo Society of Stone Lovers and the discussion club "World of Science" are active here. Collaborative projects are implemented with scientific, educational, and outreach organizations such as ROSGEO, the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Paleontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Committee on Meteorites of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Vernadsky State Geological Museum, the Russian Geographical Society, and the Ivanovo Regional Local History Society. Joint and traveling exhibitions are organized in Ivanovo, Vichuga, Plyos, and other cities.

The museum's excursion program is designed for visitors of various ages and interests and covers several areas. Stone is examined from the perspective of mineralogy, including its chemical composition, characteristics, extraction regions, and applications. Historical gemology, the role of stone in history and culture, myths and legends, paleontology, fossils, healing properties and methods of application in lithotherapy, as well as its reflection in literature, poetry, prose, and music are also highlighted.
