The Museum of the History of Uglich is a remarkable example of how enthusiasm and love for one's hometown can create a unique establishment. The Kulagin family has embodied their passion for local history by gathering an extensive collection of about 2000 items related to the history of Uglich in a merchant's mansion on Bakharova Street. Special attention is given to the lesser-known aspects of the city's life and its residents in the Middle Ages.

This private museum, although small, consists of two sections. The first showcases the everyday items of ancient townspeople, clothing, and cold weapons. A special highlight of the exhibition is the models of the city's architectural monuments, both lost and preserved. The detailed panorama of Uglich from the late 19th century is impressive. Above the panorama are paintings illustrating the city's history from its founding to the present day.

Since the museum's founder, Alexey Kulagin, studies the history of the Great Patriotic War, the museum features many items from that era, including uniforms of Soviet and German soldiers, as well as a collection of medals and orders. Models of combat aircraft are displayed from the ceiling.

Part of the exhibition is located in the courtyard of the mansion. Here, one can see a replica of the Uglich Kremlin tower, an 18th-century wooden church, an ancient cannon, a stand with the skins of German and Soviet aircraft from the war, a huge coat of arms of the USSR, and various posters.

The second section tells the story of the museum's creation. The exhibition mainly includes certificates, diplomas, and letters of gratitude. The museum is actively visited by tourists, as evidenced by the numerous flags on an improvised knight's shield, reflecting the geography of the visitors.
