In August 1998, a museum dedicated to the history of Russian vodka opened in Uglich. The land of Uglich is the birthplace of Pyotr Arsenyevich Smirnov, known as the vodka king of Russia. He created a brand that is still recognized worldwide. His alcoholic beverages have repeatedly won awards at international exhibitions and were supplied to the courts of Italy and Norway. P.A. Smirnov was honored with the title of supplier to the court of His Imperial Majesty, allowing him to use the state coat of arms of Russia on his labels. The museum tour provides detailed information about the life of Pyotr Smirnov and his production.

In the museum, you can see the first mechanized machine for bottling wine and vodka, various designs of stills, ancient jugs, and flat ceramic vessels with wide mouths, in which wine was produced until the 15th century. There is an exhibition of antique bottles, including a decanter from 1812, various drinking vessels such as shot glasses, small cups, and vodka glasses, as well as stickers and labels from the pre-revolutionary and Soviet periods. Vodka produced in the Soviet Union is also on display.

The museum's motto is: "Only vodka from Russia, real Russian vodka!" The museum houses a medal, an exact copy of the one awarded by Peter the Great to the most avid drinkers. This royal award weighs 6.8 kilograms.

The main element of the exhibition is alcoholic products from 96 factories in Russia, with over 800 varieties of vodka. Special attention is given to products from factories with more than a century of history, and vodka is presented by regional principle.

Visitors can taste several varieties of the Russian drink, and in the museum shop, they can purchase products from the oldest distilleries in Russia. The museum's activities focus on engaging with visitors, introducing them to drinking culture, and fostering a responsible attitude towards the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
