The Museum of Russian Domestic Life is a historical and cultural complex that showcases the history of the village of Nizhnevartovsk from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The idea of creating a museum in Nizhnevartovsk arose from the city's old-timers and was supported by the local administration and staff of the local history museum. Work on its establishment began in the 1990s. In 1992, the "Culture" program was approved, which provided for the construction of the museum in 1994 and 1996. During this time, the collection of ethnographic items of Russians was actively formed. The first exhibits, such as handwoven towels, knitted tablecloths, valances, napkins, and bedspreads, were donated to the museum in 1991 by the old-timer Praskovya Ivanovna Lambina. By the time the museum opened, its collections included over 700 items of Russian material culture, gathered by staff during ethnographic expeditions to the villages and hamlets of the Nizhnevartovsk district, as well as the Tyumen and Kurgan regions.

The Museum of Russian Domestic Life opened its doors on March 10, 2003, and became part of the local history museum of Nizhnevartovsk. On its territory, one can see a peasant homestead with outbuildings, barns, a bathhouse, a stable, and a hayloft, as well as a two-story wooden house, where the interiors of a peasant hut, merchant rooms, and spaces from the Soviet period of the 1930s and 1950s have been recreated.
