Tambov Region Medical History Museum

This beautiful old mansion is located next to the Archbishop Luka City Hospital, and it is here that the Tambov Medical History Museum is situated. The museum's exhibition covers just over 250 square meters. Despite significant expansion of the collection in recent years, an extension to the mansion is impossible due to its status as an architectural monument. The museum includes seven halls.

Originally, the museum was created as a small educational department in the house of sanitary enlightenment. It was organized by medical historian P. M. Krylov and physician Y. I. Farber in 1978. In the early 21st century, the exhibition of this department became part of the regional local history museum.

The museum's collections hold 2,500 exhibits, including books, manuscripts, photographs, drawings, and awards for the best doctors of the Tambov region. The museum tells the story of the development of medicine since the 17th century, when the city was founded. One of the halls is dedicated to the life and work of V. F. Voyno-Yasenetsky, known as Archbishop Luka. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to medical professionals who worked during wartime.

The Medical History Museum is a non-profit institution, with its main activities focused on research and cultural outreach. In 1985, a unique monument was installed at the entrance, dedicated to the heroism of doctors and nurses during the Great Patriotic War. It was created by sculptor, honored artist of the USSR K. Malofeev. Today, all passersby on Gogol Street can see a nurse kneeling and supporting an injured soldier.
