Today we will talk about one of the youngest museums in Siberia, the Museum of the History of Irkutsk named after Alexander Mikhailovich Sibiryakov. This museum, which recently opened, has already become a significant part of the cultural life of the city. It is named after the pre-revolutionary mayor, as it is located in a house from the late 19th century, built by Sibiryakov for a free school. In this building, during pre-revolutionary times, children of both genders received a good education, allowing them to enter prestigious higher educational institutions.

The museum was founded in 1996 and has been constantly developing since then. The museum's collection is expanding, and additional buildings have been allocated for its display. Currently, the museum covers several areas, the main one being the history of the city. Visitors can learn about various eras of Irkutsk, including the rich merchant traditions and the pages of the Civil War, which tragically affected the city. The exhibition in the main building of the museum is divided into 10 parts and contains over 10,000 exhibits.

Later, branches such as the 'Museum of Urban Life' and the 'House of Crafts' were opened, where interesting items from the pre-revolutionary and more modern periods are also presented. The 'House of Crafts' is particularly noteworthy, showcasing the rich heritage of applied arts developed in pre-revolutionary Siberia.
