Museum of the History of Borodino

Фото 1
Near the village of Borodino, not far from Moscow, the famous Battle of Borodino took place in 1812. Subsequently, some of its participants and witnesses, soldiers of the Semenovsky regiment, ended up in Siberia, where they were sent along the Moscow tract. There, in harsh conditions, they began to engage in peaceful labor, settling into a new place of residence that they named Borodino.

The main theme of the museum exhibition is the largest brown coal pit in Russia, the Borodino pit. The permanent exhibition-installation represents a coal mine with ledges, including 2,500 constructive and 1,500 decorative elements. The layered structure of the construction resembles anthracite with glimmers, reflecting the process of transforming biological material into mineral, symbolizing the preservation of memory. The journey into history begins with the dugout of the first builder, a repatriate, where the everyday history of a person seems to be pressed into coal.

In 2010, the first part of the project "Two Borodinos" was implemented. Scenes from the lives of the first builders are staged in niches-cells. Ten niches with lighting from miners' lamps and shelves for museum exhibits create the atmosphere of a "coal trench," where visitors can hear stories of townspeople inspired by museum exhibits through headphones.

The second part of the project "Two Borodinos" decorated the spaces of the large arched windows of the museum. In the deep window niches, multi-layered showcases are presented, linking the city with the Battle of Borodino, the development of sports in Borodino, and the history of the "Borodino" coal pit. The museum's projects integrate the history of the city into the regional and nationwide context of art. The museum won the competition for sociocultural projects of the Krasnoyarsk Territory in 2010 and 2012.

Visitors can transform into heroes of the Battle of Borodino, attend a 19th-century ball, embark on a virtual journey in stereo format on a large screen, and hear stories of townspeople in the coal corridor using headphones.
