The Kizlyar Historical and Local Lore Museum named after P. Bagration is the largest among the 39 branches of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Takho-Godi. Its collection holds about 17,000 exhibits. The museum is named after the local native, hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, General Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration. The people's museum in his name was opened in November 1961. In the late 1970s, the city authorities of Kizlyar provided the museum with one of the most beautiful ancient buildings in the city, the former administration. It then became part of the National Museum of the Republic of Dagestan named after A. Takho-Godi.

Today, 14 halls of the museum feature exhibitions dedicated to Russian life of the 19th and 20th centuries, Bagration, nature, the Baku-Caspian Diocese, the Terek Cossacks, and the memory of the fallen. The museum's funds include antique furniture, jewelry, household items and cultural artifacts of the peoples of the republic, decorative and applied arts, archaeological finds, books, photographs, documentary materials, and other exhibits.
