The Museum of the Frog Princess in Rostov the Great became the city's first fairy tale museum. It was opened on March 23, 2012, at the guest house Frog Princess in a building constructed in the 1790s, which previously belonged to the Malyshev merchants.

The idea of creating the museum arose thanks to Boris Alexandrovich Rybakov, who mentioned in his monograph "Paganism of Ancient Rus" that for the Ural-Finnish tribe of the Merya, from which the Rostovites descended, the frog was considered a sacred creature. This suggested that the Russian fairy tale "The Frog Princess" could have originated on the shores of Lake Nero. The museum staff was inspired by this version and created an interactive journey game based on the tale.
