The museum 'P. I. Tchaikovsky and Moscow' began its work on May 18, 2007, in the building of the Cultural Center named after P. I. Tchaikovsky. In this historic house, in an apartment that occupied half of the second floor of the old estate's wing, Pyotr Ilyich lived from September 1872 to November 1873.

Moscow played a significant role in Tchaikovsky's life and creativity. It was during this period that his creative individuality was formed in the capital. Here, the composer found friends and like-minded individuals whose support helped him overcome difficulties and contributed to the development of his musical talent. Moscow became the place where Tchaikovsky's genius gained worldwide fame. Later he wrote that if it were not for fate bringing him to Moscow, where he lived for over 12 years, he would not have achieved what he did.

The museum opened the exhibition 'Tchaikovsky and the World', dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the composer. For the first time, the general public can see many relics related to his life and work. About 500 exhibits are provided by leading museums in Russia.

The aim of the exhibition is to show two sides of the great composer's life: his interaction with the outside world and his inner focus. The first section, 'The World of Tchaikovsky', is dedicated to his personality, character, psychology, and daily life. The second section, 'Tchaikovsky and the World', reveals his multifaceted contacts with the outside world through music, art, and social connections.

The exhibition includes authentic materials: historical documents, personal belongings of the composer, photographs, engravings, lithographs, drawings, friendly caricatures, and letters. Visitors can see Tchaikovsky's handwritten legacy, including more than fifty autographs, scores, and literary manuscripts. Phonographic recordings are played in the halls.

The exhibition allows for a detailed tracing of the composer's creative process from conception to performance. Special attention is given to Symphony No. 6, the last work performed during Tchaikovsky's lifetime.

The sound and artistic design of the exhibition create a holistic image of the composer and a sense of his presence.

The exhibition 'Tchaikovsky and the World' is organized by the Museum Association of Musical Culture named after M. I. Glinka in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin and the resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation on the celebration of the 175th anniversary of P. I. Tchaikovsky's birth.
