The collection of exhibits for the museum in the village of Mukhino began back in 1968, when the chairman of the collective farm named after Dzerzhinsky, A. K. Kormshchikov, supported this initiative. Vera Mikhailovna Dovydova, the head of the club, took on the task of gathering materials. However, the museum did not have a permanent location: during the Soviet era, it was housed in the House of Culture, and after the perestroika, it was forgotten.

In 2007, an initiative group emerged, aiming to revive the museum. It was led by Valentina Semyonovna Golyasheva, a former accountant. She proposed to create a museum in a separate building to preserve the collected exhibits, which were beginning to be lost due to lack of care. The director of the closed joint-stock company "Agrofirma Mukhino," Leonid Alexandrovich Kazakov, provided a former residential building in the center of the village for the museum.

Currently, the museum features a variety of collections, with six halls that have constantly updated exhibitions and a storage facility created. In the ethnographic hall, visitors can see household items and clothing of peasants from the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as a functioning weaving loom and patterned weaving products. In the hall dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, villagers can learn about the feats of their fellow countrymen and their awards, as well as the assistance the village provided to the front.

Museum staff have developed more than 15 thematic excursion programs that introduce visitors to the history of the village and the region, expand children's knowledge of peasant life and customs, and deepen their understanding of the nature, traditions, and customs of their homeland. The museum hosts events dedicated to various calendar dates and holidays. Open house days on May 9 and 18, June 1, and September 1 have become traditional, as well as participation in the "Night at the Museum" and "Night of the Arts" events.
