The Livny Mary Magdalene Women's Monastery, located in the Oryol region, was founded in 1884 with funds from landowner Maria Okhotnikova. The monastery was closed in 1918 but was returned to the Church in 1995.

On March 27, 1884, by the decree of Alexander III, the Holy Governing Synod approved the proposal of Bishop Simeon of Oryol and Sevsk to establish a new women's monastery. The funds for its construction were bequeathed by Maria Okhotnikova, who passed away in 1883. The monastery was situated on the northern outskirts of the village of Nikolskoye.

By the early 20th century, the monastery represented a developed architectural ensemble with the dominant Mary Magdalene Cathedral, built between 1884 and 1886 according to the design of architect A.A. Kyui. In 1887, a school for girls was opened at the monastery, funded by I.N. Vasiliev, Okhotnikova's executor.

The monastery was closed in 1918. Over time, many of its buildings were dismantled, and some were destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. In 1960, the dome of the cathedral was destroyed.

The revival of the monastery began in 1995 when the residents of Nikolskoye, together with priest Nikolai Maltsev and farm director I.I. Noskov, gathered to restore the monastery. With the arrival of Mother Kypriana (Shishkina) and her sister nun Ioanna, active restoration of the monastery began. People came from all over to help.

On November 5, 1998, the abbess Mother Kypriana, spiritual father Hieromonk Gerasim, and two sisters died in a car accident. This was a heavy blow for the monastery. The nuns were buried near the monastery church, and Hieromonk Gerasim in Oryol.

The next abbess was nun Antonina from the Shamordinsky Monastery, under whom restoration work continued.

In January 2003, nun Ioanna (Boyarskaya) from the Holy Nicholas Chornoostrov Monastery was appointed abbess.

On July 26, 2010, nun Martha (Lodzhanskaya) from the Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg Monastery became the abbess.

On October 17, 2010, Archbishop Panteleimon consecrated the restored Mary Magdalene Cathedral.

Today, the monastery is active, with daily services held in its churches, an increasing number of residents, and improvements in social service forms.
