The history of the Nicholas Monastery began in 1978 when it was founded with the blessing of the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, Metropolitan Philaret. Initially, the monastery was named after the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow," but later, after the miraculous appearance of the icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, it was renamed in honor of this saint.

The monastery is located in a picturesque area covering 12 acres (about 6 hectares), two hours' drive from Miami. Father John managed the monastery for nearly thirty years. During this time, the monastery became an important center for educational and social work, providing support to thousands of people in need of physical, emotional, and psychological help, and assisting them in changing their life circumstances.

Various utility buildings were constructed on the monastery grounds: a woodworking shop, an icon restoration workshop, a church store, a library, a beehive, and others.

Founded by Father John, the monastery has experienced much in its 40-year history but has always remained a beacon of spirituality in the land of Florida. It houses the largest collection of Orthodox relics in America, including parts of the relics of over 600 saints. The monastery is situated in a beautiful area of 6 hectares, where the air is always very clean.
