On January 14, 2018, a women's monastery in honor of the Kaluga Mother of God icon was opened in the village of Zhdamirovo, Kaluga region. The location was chosen for a reason; the icon was found here, which, according to legend, saved Kaluga from plague, cholera, and halted Napoleon's army. The solemn opening on Sunday was attended by the governor of the region, Anatoly Artamonov, and Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk.

The decision to establish the monastery was made by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on December 28, 2017. It is based on the dependency of the Chernoostrov Monastery, which had been operating in Zhdamirovo since 2006. In 1748, the Kaluga Mother of God icon was found nearby, considered the patroness of the Kaluga land. In 1760, a stone church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built for it, replacing a wooden one, and became the center of the new monastery. The Kaluga Mother of God icon is one of the most revered in Kaluga. It is credited with freeing the city from plague epidemics in 1771 and cholera in 1898, as well as protecting it from Napoleon's army.

Currently, ten nuns reside in the monastery, which is located in the building of a former village school. There is a Sunday school here, where about 70 people are educated. Plans include the creation of a dependency of the monastery in the Koltsovo estate. According to the regional government, the new monastery has become the ninth in the Kaluga metropolis and the seventh in the Kaluga diocese.
