Viktor Vladimirovich Dyborsky, an officer of the Russian Imperial Navy, was one of the first aviators to master flying in 1908.

During World War I, he was sent to England, where he played a significant role in the development of British armed fighters.

In 1916, Dyborsky, together with warrant officer F. V. Scarff, a well-known inventor of artillery mounts, worked on creating interrupting mechanisms that allowed pilots to fire a machine gun straight ahead through a rotating propeller.

The Royal Naval Air Service installed several such mechanisms, patented as the Scarff-Dyborsky synchronizer, on their Sopwith aircraft. In May 1917, Dyborsky developed an improved machine gun ammunition belt. After the war, he continued to work as an aircraft mechanic in England.
