Grave of N. L. Tarasov at the Armenian Cemetery in Moscow

Фото 1
The tombstone was created by sculptor Nikolai Andreev and depicts the scene of Nikolai Tarasov's suicide. His body lies on the pedestal, and although the face is made from a death mask, it gives the impression that the young man is simply sleeping. However, upon closer inspection, it is clear that Tarasov rests on a deathbed supported by mourners.

Around the grave, there is a wrought-iron fence made in Venice based on the sculptor's sketches. It features the Garden of Paradise, and on the gates, the archangels Michael and Gabriel.

Interestingly, during the Soviet years, the figure on the tombstone disappeared. Today, a copy made by Yuri Orekhov can be seen.

Tarasov's tombstone is recognized as one of the best in Moscow from the Art Nouveau era and is protected by the state as a monument of history and culture.
