Maria Klavdievna passed away on April 14, 1928, and was buried at the Sèvres Cemetery. The tombstone for her grave was created based on a sketch by I.Ya. Bilibin. Beneath this stone rest her loved ones: nanny Liza Grabkina, who died on February 5, 1936, Princess Ekaterina Konstantinovna Svyatopolk-Chetvertinskaya, who passed away on April 7, 1942, and Vasily Alexandrovich Bogdanov-Lidin, who left this life on December 1, 1942. The grave was tended by the artist V.D. Polenov's grandson, Alexander Alexandrovich Lyapin, until his death in 2011.
