At the old Lutheran Vagankovo Cemetery, not far from the grave of his famous older brother Viktor Vasnetsov, rests the outstanding Russian artist Apollinary Mikhailovich Vasnetsov. He passed away on January 23, 1933, in Moscow at the age of 76.

Apollinary Vasnetsov is known to the public for his paintings, among which a rare series dedicated to ancient Moscow stands out. In addition to painting, he worked as a theatrical artist in a private opera theater owned by the Moscow merchant and patron Savva Morozov. Vasnetsov created scenery for the operas "The Tale of Tsar Saltan," "Sadko," and "The Oprichnik," staged at Morozov's theater, as well as for the opera "The Tsar's Bride" at the People's City Theater and the final scene of the opera "Life for the Tsar" at the Bolshoi Theater.

Moreover, for many years, Vasnetsov headed the landscape class at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture. During the Soviet years, he became the only artist who, through articles in newspapers, tried to prevent the destruction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

Finding the burial place of this outstanding artist is not difficult. You need to enter the cemetery from the side of Hospital Val Street, walk along the central alley to the end of section 8, then turn left and go straight to section 20, which will be on your left. The grave of Apollinary Mikhailovich is right by the road in section 20.
