Countess Sofia de Merenberg, also known as Countess Torby, was born on June 1, 1868, and passed away on September 14, 1927. She was the eldest daughter of Prince Nikolai Wilhelm of Nassau and Natalia Alexandrovna Pushkina. Sofia was born in Geneva, Switzerland, and was the first child in the family. Due to her parents' marriage being considered morganatic, Sofia could not bear her father's title or rank. On her father's side, her grandparents were Wilhelm I, Duke of Nassau, and Princess Pauline of Württemberg. On her mother's side, her grandfather was the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, and her grandmother was Natalia Pushkina.
