The grave of Alexander Herzen is located on Castle Hill in Nice, on a historic elevation where a beautiful park with shady alleys, a picturesque waterfall, and a magnificent view of the sea and the city has been established. Here, there is also the old Chateau cemetery, known for its elegant sculptures, chapels, marble tombstones, and family vaults. Among the many famous people buried here is the Russian philosopher and writer Alexander Herzen. He passed away in Paris, but according to his will, he was buried in Nice next to his wife Natalia Zakharina. The statue of Herzen was created in 1875 by sculptor P. Zabello. In this grave also rest four of Herzen's children, and on the pedestal of the monument, there is a memorial inscription dedicated to his mother Louise Haag and his son Nikolai, who perished in the sinking of the steamer 'City of Grasse' on the way to Nice.
