Georgy (Yuri) Petrovich Bakhmetev (1847, 1928, Paris) was a Russian diplomat and chamberlain since 1908.

Born in 1847, he graduated from Oxford University. He began his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1870. In 1874, he became the second secretary of the mission in the USA, and from 1879, he held a similar position at the embassy in France.

From 1883, Bakhmetev worked as the first secretary of the Russian mission in Greece and in 1897 became the envoy to Bulgaria, where he achieved the expulsion of P. N. Milyukov, who had come there to give lectures.

In 1906 and 1908, he was the ambassador to Japan, and in 1911 and 1917, to the USA. After the February Revolution of 1917, Bakhmetev resigned, and on April 13 of the same year, the Provisional Government led by Prince Georgy Lvov granted his request to be relieved of his ambassadorial duties.

In 1920, he moved to France with his wife and passed away in Paris on August 29, 1928.

Bakhmetev was not related to Boris Bakhmetev, who became his successor by appointment of the Provisional Government. When asked by journalists, he replied that they were as related as George Washington and Booker Washington.
