In 1944, the artist fell seriously ill and was receiving treatment at a Berlin clinic. He passed away on February 19, 1945, in Berlin and was buried at the Russian Orthodox cemetery in Tegel, located in the central part of the city at Wittestrasse, 37. His grave is included in the list of foreign burial sites that have historical and memorial significance for the Russian Federation.
