The S. T. Aksakov Memorial House-Museum, located in an old mansion on the picturesque banks of the Belaya River in Ufa, is the ancestral estate of the famous Russian writer and public figure Sergey Timofeevich Aksakov. This house, recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance in Russia, also serves as a branch of the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The museum building is a classic example of Russian wooden architecture from the late 18th century with a sequential arrangement of rooms. Despite the modest size of the mansion and its collection, the museum has become one of the cultural centers of Ufa. Here, tourists and locals can get to know Aksakov's life and work more closely, as well as visit various exhibitions and events regularly held at the museum.

Opposite Aksakov's house is the garden of the hero of Bashkiria, Salavat Yulaev, and a shady alley named after Sofia Alexandrovna Aksakova, the writer's daughter-in-law, leads to the museum.

The museum, opened for the 200th anniversary of the writer's birth, consists of two parts: memorial and literary. The memorial part, occupying seven rooms, carefully preserves household items of the Aksakov family, recreating the atmosphere of that time. The literary part includes three rooms with exhibits reflecting the later period of the writer's life, including manuscripts, books, a family tree, rare photographs, and paintings. Here, one can see illustrations by Nikolai Bogatov for the tale "The Scarlet Flower" and a recreated interior of a 19th-century governor's house related to Aksakov's son's work.

In the exhibition area of 562 square meters, several thousand items are collected, including books, paintings by Bashkir artists of the 20th century, and 19th-century furniture. On regular days, 14 halls are open with almost 3,000 exhibits.

Every September, the "Aksakov Holidays" take place in Ufa, with the museum grounds becoming the main venue. Conferences, literary-musical evenings, fairs, exhibitions of contemporary artists, and folk festivities are held here.

On the estate grounds, there is a Crafts House where one can learn wood carving, attend music classes, and visit exhibitions of contemporary artists.

This place is described by the writer himself in one of his books. The house originally belonged to Aksakov's maternal grandfather, Collegiate Councillor Nikolai Stepanovich Zubov. Later, the house was purchased by the writer's father, and little Sergey lived here with his parents from 1795 to 1797.

At different times, there were a leather hospital and a teachers' library here. The house-museum is located in the park area of Ufa. In the mid-1960s, the house was almost demolished, but thanks to the efforts of local historians, it was preserved. Restoration began in the late 1980s, and in 1991, the year of Aksakov, at the initiative of UNESCO, the museum opened its doors to its first visitors.
