A month and a half after acquiring the house, Konstantin Georgievich shares his first impressions: "Tarusa is wonderful. The surroundings are like a fairy tale... the places here are marvelous... I have no desire to go to Moscow."

There even appeared the expression "Tarusan expanses." Just recently, the forests, as they say, "fell off the edge of the earth here." They rose above the Oka, bathed in sunlight, shrouded in bluish morning mist, with trembling foliage. In autumn, this land was immersed in gold, crimson, and silence, wrote Paustovsky.

The two-story house on Proletarskaya Street had a convenient layout. The family made some changes and expansions to ensure there was enough space for everyone. From Konstantin Georgievich's room, doors led to his wife's room and the children's room. The interior quickly filled with details brought by Paustovsky from his travels across Russia, the republics of the USSR, and Eastern Europe. Some pieces of furniture were made by his wife, Tatyana Alexeyevna Yevteeva-Arbuzova. Flowers stood on the windowsills, and climbing plants wrapped around the walls of the house.

In the garden, the Paustovskys planted fruit trees and created a large flowerbed. Tatyana Alexeyevna grew lilies of various sorts and hydrangeas. Konstantin Georgievich's study was on the second floor with a view of the garden. The writer loved to work in front of an open window, and during warm weather, he moved his work to the garden gazebo. "The most noticeable sign of the special way of life of this family was the flowers and various plants," recalled actor Alexey Batalov.

On May 30, 1967, Paustovsky was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Tarusa." The writer is buried in the local cemetery on the outskirts of the city, on a steep bank of the Taruska River.

The house in Tarusa belonged to Galina Arbuzova, the daughter of Tatyana Alexeyevna from a previous marriage. Paustovsky's stepdaughter understood that the house, which encompassed an important stage of life, should preserve the memory of the people. A rich exhibition has been gathered here, recreating the atmosphere of the 50s and 60s. The preserved household items and personal belongings are located where Konstantin Paustovsky and Tatyana Yevteeva-Arbuzova were used to seeing them.

The first exhibition of the public "K.G. Paustovsky Museum" was held from 1975 to 1986 in the premises of the Tarusa club "Sputnik-2" at Moscow Automobile Plant No. 10. In 1984, the museum was awarded the title of "People's Museum." Only in 2012 was the grand opening of the museum held in the house where the writer lived.

Every year on Paustovsky's birthday, May 31, celebrations are held in Tarusa in his honor.
