In April 2016, a memorial was opened in Rostov-on-Don in honor of the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster. The monument, created by sculptor Sergey Isakov, is located on Sholokhov Avenue.

The sculpture is made of bronze and depicts a soldier standing on a globe. Flames erupting from the destroyed nuclear power plant engulf his uniform and legs. To the right of the monument is a bell supported by human hands. These hands symbolize the 24,000 people from the Rostov region who participated in the cleanup efforts, many of whom died or became seriously ill. On the left is a figure of an atom, consisting of three circles with rotating spheres. It serves as a reminder that peaceful nuclear energy, if mishandled, can lead to technological disasters and serious consequences.
