In Moscow, on Soviet Army Street, a bronze memorial has been erected in honor of the crew of the nuclear submarine 'Kursk'. This monument was created after the disaster that occurred on August 12, 2000.

Sculptor Kerbel, the author of the monument, aimed to convey the feelings of those who lost loved ones in this tragedy. He wanted to create an image of a Russian sailor that simultaneously expresses courage, pain, and grief for the fallen comrades.

The monument, named 'The Mourning Sailor', stands 4.5 meters tall. It depicts a sailor with a cap in his left hand, looking to the right. Behind him, a submarine is visible, diving. Despite its stylization, its outlines resemble the lost ship. The monument is set on a base designed in the form of a stylized St. Andrew's flag.

On the pedestal, an inscription reads: 'In memory of the crew of the nuclear submarine 'Kursk', who perished while performing a training combat mission.'
