On February 12, 2021, in Bamberg, Bavaria, Mechtilda Alexandra Bauscher, née Princess of Leiningen, passed away. She was the youngest daughter of Karl III, the 6th Prince of Leiningen, and Princess Maria Kirillovna, as well as the granddaughter of Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich and Grand Duchess Victoria Fedorovna. The princess was 85 years old.

Mechtilda Alexandra was born on January 2, 1936, in Würzburg. For her christening, exactly 85 years ago, Victoria Fedorovna traveled from France. However, in Amorbach, the Grand Duchess suffered a stroke and passed away a few days later due to complications.

When Mechtilda Alexandra was 10 years old, she lost her father, who was captured by the Soviets in 1945 and died in a prisoner of war camp near Saransk. At 15, she lost her mother: Maria Kirillovna died of a heart attack in 1951 in Madrid.

In 1961, with the permission of her older brother, Mechtilda Alexandra entered into a morganatic marriage with engineer Karl Anton Bauscher. They had three sons.

After the death of her older sister Kira Melita in 2005, Mechtilda Alexandra remained the last living child of Princess Maria Kirillovna.

Princess Maria Kirillovna of imperial blood was born on January 21 (February 2) 1907 in Coburg, Saxony. She was the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich and Grand Duchess Victoria Fedorovna. By decree of Emperor Nicholas II on July 15, 1907, she was included in the Russian Imperial House. In 1924, her father, who took the title of Emperor of All Russia Kirill I, granted her the title of Grand Duchess of Russia, which is disputed by opponents of the Kirill branch.
