The Mariinskaya Women's Gymnasium in Saratov was opened in 1859. Initially, it was located on Priyutskaya Street in the house of merchant Mamin. According to archival data, the gymnasium was intended for the education of girls from noble families and, throughout its long history, changed locations several times before receiving a specially built building.

In 1905, at the corner of Alexandrovskaya and Konstantinovskaya Streets (now Maxim Gorky and Soviet), an educational institution was opened based on the design of architect A.N. Klementyev, which became exemplary in Saratov. The Mariinskaya Women's Gymnasium, which was under the jurisdiction of the institutions of Empress Maria, was distinguished by its highly qualified teaching staff and well-equipped classrooms and offices. The building was always kept clean and orderly, and the assembly hall was adorned with portraits of high-ranking individuals in gilded frames.

After the October Revolution, the gymnasium building was used as a secondary school, with its number changing twice, in 1918 and 1941. During the Great Patriotic War, it housed a hospital, and in 1946, the building was occupied by the Dementyev Aviation Technical School, which trained specialists for the developing Aviation Plant in Saratov. In the mid-1990s, when the demand for specialists in the aviation industry decreased, a college of information technology and management was opened based on the technical school, which still operates in the building of the former gymnasium.

Memorial plaques have been installed on the building in honor of three heroes who studied here at different times, including the Lenin Prize laureate Yuri Sergeyevich Bykov, the first chief designer of radio telephone communication with manned spacecraft.
