The model of the ship 'Mercury' in Voronezh is one of the main attractions of the city. The author of the composition 'Frigate over the Sea' is V. Neberkutyn. The monument was located in the middle of the Voronezh reservoir, rising above the water. It was situated in a hard-to-reach place, and to see it up close, one had to travel by boat or across the ice in winter. Due to the effects of currents and wind, the concrete support on which the model stood began to tilt, creating a threat of losing the monument. Additionally, the pedestal was vandalized: aluminum sails and a brass lion's head were removed from it.

The administration of the Left Bank district decided that the monument, symbolizing the greatness of the Russian Navy, needed restoration. On May 29, 2018, the model was dismantled. The 'Voronezhstalmost' plant offered to carry out the restoration for free. However, as project curator Sergey Shirobokov noted, the condition of the ship was so deplorable that restoration was impossible; it was almost completely destroyed by rust. It was decided to create a new model of the ship.

A team of specialists participated in the work on the new copy of the barcalon. The new 'Mercury' became more durable and reliable, made entirely of steel, which protects it from vandals.

Voronezh rightfully is considered the cradle of the Russian fleet. Here, by the decree of Peter I, the first shipyards were built, which strengthened Russia's reputation as a maritime power. The monument to the ship 'Mercury' in Voronezh symbolizes the might of the Russian Navy. The updated barcalon was installed in a new location just before City Day.

The shipyards were erected in 1695, and the first sailing-oared vessels were launched before the campaign against Turkey. At the head of the armada was the powerful three-masted barcalon 'Mercury'. The enemy, struck by the appearance of 11 large ships, surrendered their positions. The victory over Turkey marked the beginning of Russia's prosperity.

The ship 'Mercury' in Voronezh is part of the history of Russian navigation. This maneuverable barcalon was ideal for long journeys, carrying 26 guns on each side, ensuring complete defeat of the enemy. The ship sank near the shore after a storm but was later raised and repaired. Subsequently, it was used for peaceful purposes, served in Taganrog, and participated in salt expeditions. In 1716, its story came to an end.

Where is the ship 'Mercury' now in Voronezh? The new monument was decided to be installed before City Day. Residents of Voronezh were surveyed on where they would like to see the monument, and the location chosen was the 'Ilyich' park in the Left Bank district. Now the greatness of the Russian fleet can be seen at the entrance to the Left Bank district. Work on the installation of the monument began on August 21.

The new model of the ship 'Mercury' in Voronezh can be seen at the intersection of Brusilov and Sportivnaya embankments, in the 'Ilyich' square.
