Lokosovo is considered one of the oldest rural settlements in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Yugra. Its history begins with the construction of the Epiphany Church in 1716 on a high bank of the Ob River, 100 kilometers from Surgut. The village became the spiritual center of the Vakhovskaya volost and was originally called the Epiphany Pogost. Over two centuries, the church has been rebuilt multiple times. According to archival data, by 1908 a new wooden church building with an iron roof, three gilded crosses on the bell tower, 11 windows with double glazing and iron grilles, as well as a wooden altar and a portable iron folding altar had been erected. In 1917, Lokosovo had about 27 households with a population of 200 people.

The State Archive of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug holds a case from the Surgut District Police dedicated to the documents of the Lokosovo Epiphany Church for the years 1923-1927. The archival documents indicate various years and reasons for the church's closure. On May 4, 1923, a contract for the indefinite use of the church building with liturgical items was signed. The contract was typed, and the details about the church were handwritten by a priest or church elder. The lists of members of the religious community included 173 people in 1923, 188 in 1925, and 183 in 1926.

In 1929, due to a new law on religious associations and re-registration, checks were conducted to ensure compliance with the terms of contracts by Orthodox parishes. The inspection in Lokosovo took place on July 1. The act noted that in the summer of 1929, the believers repaired the church and painted the roof, but did not insure the building and property for 1930. In May 1930, the Lokosovo religious community was liquidated for failing to pass re-registration, and the Surgut District Executive Committee planned to use the church building as a community center.

With the establishment of the Ostyako-Vogul National Okrug on December 10, 1930, and the relocation of administrative bodies from Tyumen to Samorovo, many churches closed by district executive committees were not legally liquidated by the regional authorities. Therefore, in the list of liquidated and active churches in the Surgut district dated January 8, 1932, the Lokosovo Epiphany Church is listed as active.

On November 15, 1936, the Ostyako-Vogul District Executive Committee decided to use the Lokosovo church building as a club. The decision states that the building has not been used for religious purposes since 1921, there is no community of believers wishing to take the building, and the building itself requires major repairs. However, archival documents indicate that the church functioned until 1930.

Documents from 1945 state that the church in Lokosovo was closed in 1930 by a decision of the general assembly of citizens, converted into a club, the bells were removed, and church property was confiscated. In 1952, the building of the Epiphany Church burned down.
