The Kuban Literary Museum, a department of the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve named after E.D. Felitsyn, began its work on September 1, 1988. It is located in an architectural monument from the first quarter of the 19th century, the house of the Acting Ataman of the Black Sea Cossack Army, Y.G. Kukarenko, who was one of the first literati of Kuban.

The museum's exhibition covers the literary life of Kuban from the first half of the 18th century to the present day. Visitors strolling through the halls can see unique manuscripts and old printed books, a collection of pre-revolutionary periodicals from Kuban, as well as historical and ethnographic essays by well-known researchers of the region: I. Popka, F. Shcherbina, E. Felitsyn, P. Korolenko. The museum presents materials about the stay in Kuban of such figures as D. Bedny, V. Vishnevsky, V. Mayakovsky, N. Ostrovsky, as well as about Kuban writers, participants in the Great Patriotic War, and contemporary literati.

A separate section is dedicated to the former owner of the house, Y.G. Kukarenko. Here, one can see books and documents that tell about the life of this remarkable family.

Particular attention is given to a section of the library that was on board a torpedo boat that sank during the Kerch-Eltigen operation in November 1943. These books were raised by an underwater expedition of the museum-reserve in 2012.

Museum staff organize overview and thematic excursions, lectures and museum lessons, hold literary evenings and meetings with Kuban prose writers and poets, as well as arrange stationary and traveling exhibitions.
