The Literary and Memorial Museum of the first Komi poet I.A. Kuratov was opened in 1969 as a branch of the Republican Local History Museum. The exhibition was created by the head of the history department of the Republican Local History Museum A.M. Rubtsov, the first head of the literary museum T.A. Sheromova (Chistalëva), and artist R.N. Ermolov. For thirty years, the museum was located on the first floor of a residential building on Ordzhonikidze Street.

In 2009, the Literary Museum of I.A. Kuratov moved to a newly renovated building, the former home of merchant S.G. Sukhanov. The new exhibition tells the history of the development of language, writing, and literature in the region from the 14th to the 20th centuries. The main sections include: "Komi in the Family of Finno-Ugric Peoples," "The Emergence of Writing among the Komi-Zyrians," "Life and Work of I.A. Kuratov. The History of the Discovery and Study of His Poetic Heritage," "Komi Literature in the First Third of the 20th Century," "Komi Republic Literature during the Great Patriotic War and the Post-War Period. 1940s-1950s," "Modern Literature of the Komi Republic. The Second Half of the 20th Century and the Beginning of the 21st Century."

The exhibition also introduces visitors to the folklore and mythology of the Komi, demonstrating the diversity of related peoples through the Finno-Ugric language tree. Iconographic and book monuments, works by the first researchers of language and writing, such as P.I. Savvaitov and G.S. Lytkin, tell about the emergence of Old Permic writing, associated with the creation of the alphabet by Stefan of Perm in the 14th century, and the tradition of copying Christian liturgical books and their translation into the Komi language in the 15th-19th centuries.

The museum houses a collection of handwritten books from the 15th to the 19th centuries, Old Believer family libraries from the 18th to the 20th centuries, peasant handwritten books with translations of liturgical texts and works by A.S. Pushkin, N.V. Gogol, and M. Twain into the Komi language.

A key space in the exhibition is dedicated to the fate of the founder of Komi literature I.A. Kuratov and the history of the discovery of his poetic heritage. The period of the 1900s-1930s is represented by unique items and documents of the era, including a manuscript of K.F.'s poem.

The life and work during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 are narrated through front-line letters, diary entries, photographs from the war years, documents, awards, and personal belongings of poets and prose writers: A.P. Razmyslov, V.I. Yelkin, G.A. Fyodorov, I.V. Izyurov, I.I. Pystin, I.M. Vavilin, and S.A. Popov; manuscripts, photographs, and books of writers who were in the rear, prose writers V.V. Yukhinin, Ya.M. Rochev, and playwrights N.M. Dyakonov and S.I. Ermolov.

The hall dedicated to modern literature of the Komi Republic is designed in the format of a book café. Here, one can retreat with a book over a cup of coffee, immersing oneself in the world of images created by renowned writers I.G. Toropov, G.A. Yushkov, A.E. Vaneev, V.V. Kushmanov, N.A. Miroshnichenko, V.V. Timiny, N.N. Kuratova, as well as attend literary meetings and musical-poetic evenings of contemporary authors.
