In 1987, the Literary and Musical Museum opened in Michurinsk in a house known as the home of the Golitsyn princes. The history of this building began in the first quarter of the 19th century when it was built at the behest of Prince N. B. Golitsyn. The prince became famous for his bravery in the Patriotic War of 1812 and was also known as a poet, translator of poetry, and a music lover who played the cello virtuously. The home of the Golitsyn princes became a true cultural center of Kozlov and continues to hold significance in the cultural life of the city to this day. The museum is visited by more than 11,000 people annually. The museum's exhibitions are dedicated to the Golitsyn princes and the history of musical life in Kozlov-Michurinsk.

Most of the exhibits were donated by the Dёmin-Kozhevnikov, Shmerling, Kharkov, Golikov, and Bakharov families. Writer A. V. Strigin and local journalist B. I. Ilyoshin also sent their books and manuscripts. The halls "Pushkin and the Tambov Region" and "The Magical World of Fairy Tales" are particularly popular among visitors, featuring illustrations for Russian and world fairy tales created by Michurinsk artists. There is also a hall with illustrations for works of Russian and foreign classical literature.

Museum staff organize interesting and educational excursions, as well as traveling exhibitions for different age groups. They visit educational institutions and enterprises, sharing the best literary and musical traditions of the city.
