“The world caught me, but did not hold me”

The National Literary-Memorial Museum of H. S. Skovoroda is located in the village of Skovorodynivka, which is part of the Zolochiv settlement community in the Bohodukhiv district of Kharkiv region. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of Hryhorii Skovoroda and was founded in 1972.

The museum is housed in a building that served as a garden pavilion for the Kovalensky landowners in the 18th century. The first two halls feature materials about Skovoroda's biography and work, while the third hall is dedicated to his commemoration. A memorial room, where the philosopher lived and passed away, is also open for visitors.

In the museum's exhibition, one can see editions of Skovoroda's works, literature about him, as well as books by ancient, medieval, and other philosophers and poets he studied. Ethnographic items, paintings, and graphic works related to Skovoroda, along with some of his personal belongings, are also displayed. The museum's lobby regularly hosts temporary thematic exhibitions.

The old park adjacent to the museum also holds historical significance. Its layout has changed little since Skovoroda's time. The park contains a well, the site of the philosopher's first burial, and his grave. A monument by I. P. Kavalerydze is installed here, along with a sculptural “philosophical alley.” Visitors can also view the manager's office building, constructed on the foundation of the Kovalensky's main building, and the landowner's barn.
