The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the famous Russian writer Dmitry Narkisovich Mamin-Sibiryak.

The house, which is part of the typical development of Yekaterinburg in the 19th century, has been preserved in the form in which it was acquired by the writer. Mamin-Sibiryak's famous novels "Privalov's Millions" and "Mountain Nest" brought in the royalties that were used to purchase the house in 1884.

The writer is also known for the collection of novellas "Ural Tales," and especially for the collection of children's stories "Alyonushka's Tales." The house-museum is surrounded by an atmosphere of creativity and even a certain fairy-tale mystery. Today, it is adjacent to office buildings and is not immediately noticeable among the urban landscape, especially in summer when the crowns of trees hide it.

Visitors note that it is very quiet and cozy here, exuding a wonderful calmness, despite the fact that the museum building is located in the center of Yekaterinburg. Today, this street is named after Pushkin, while in those times it was called Sobornaya.

There was a small garden with a carriage shed and a canopy, a true estate. Unfortunately, it has not survived, and a small courtyard remains in its place.

In 1891, Mamin-Sibiryak moved to St. Petersburg, while his family, mother, brothers, and sister, remained in the house. Then, at the wish of Dmitry Narkisovich, his daughter Alyonushka took over the property. She bequeathed the house to Yekaterinburg with a request to create a museum dedicated to her father's life and work.

In 1940, work began on creating the museum, but it was interrupted by the Great Patriotic War, and various offices were placed in the building.

In 1946, the museum in memory of the writer Mamin-Sibiryak was opened. It is part of the United Museum of Ural Writers and is protected by the state as a cultural heritage site of federal significance.

The current exhibition of the museum was created in 2007 and is located in eight small rooms of the house-museum. The interior has been preserved in its original form as much as possible.

Here, one can see personal belongings of Mamin-Sibiryak and the Mamin family: photographs, manuscripts, letters, icons, illustrations to books published during the author's lifetime, portraits of other Russian writers and their publications, as well as household items and furniture. The museum is valuable for introducing visitors to life at the end of the 19th century.

The permanent exhibition includes the display "Behind the Scenes," dedicated to the theatrical life of the century before last, more precisely, the theatrical backstage, well known to Mamin-Sibiryak. The cultural life of the 19th century is reflected in many of the author's works. The exhibition features photographs, documents, pre-revolutionary newspapers and magazines, as well as paintings of old Yekaterinburg created by contemporary artists.
