On June 10, 1995, in honor of the centenary of N.V. Ignatiev's birth, the founder of Mountain Mari literature and a native of Chalomkino, the Literary and Art Museum was solemnly opened. In the ever-changing modern world, we turn to the historical past of our people to maintain the connection between generations and not lose our roots.
The museum is located in a specially built one-story wooden building made of logs, with an area of 189 m². It has two halls: an exhibition hall and a display hall.
Significant work has been done to collect materials about Mountain Mari enlighteners, poets, writers, and actors. The museum staff also gathered the history of the village of Chalomkino, information about its residents and craftsmen who create Chalomkino chains. The exhibition includes materials on Mountain Mari literature, music, culture, and folk crafts.
Every museum is a keeper of the memory of generations, a guide through history, and a collector of historical values.
Since 2001, in order to preserve ancient customs, traditions, and folk songs, the museum has created the folklore ensemble "Vady zherä". The participants of the ensemble are elderly women from the village of Chalomkino, who have also made a significant contribution to the revival of canvas weaving and carpet making.
In a short time, the N.V. Ignatiev Local History Museum has become an important cultural center, eagerly visited by writers, poets, scholars, artists, teachers, and students. The museum lives a vibrant life: new exhibitions and displays are opened here, interesting events and meetings take place.
We must preserve the past and present of the region, district, and village, the experience of previous generations, their traditions, way of life, customs, and natural uniqueness in their original form, as they were in ancient times.
