Bugrov's Summer Dacha

Фото 1
In the mid-19th century, the famous Russian merchant Nikolai Alexandrovich Bugrov built a complex of powerful steam mills in Volodarsk, which soon became a cornerstone of the town. Around the production facilities, dormitories for workers, a hospital, and administrative buildings appeared. To personally oversee his flour mill, Bugrov decided to establish a summer dacha in Volodarsk.

The unique merchant mansion of the 19th century, two stories high, was built in 1895. It was constructed without a single nail from timber owned by the merchant, in the Russian lubok style. The mansion combines lace-like wooden patterns of boyar chambers and the shape of a peasant dwelling, reminiscent of the teremok from Russian folk tales. The yellow facade is adorned with pink and green carved elements. The first floor housed the merchant's study, while the second floor contained a living room and a bedroom. The walls were draped in brocade of blue and pink colors, and parquet flooring covered the floors. The heating was arranged so that warmth from the boiler room was supplied to the rooms without open flames, reducing the risk of fires. A linden alley led from the railway station to the mansion, and a fountain with marble angels was nearby. There are several versions regarding the origin of Bugrov's mansion in Volodarsk. According to the first, the dacha's design was created by architect Malinovsky on direct order and for the specified location. The second version suggests that the building was brought from the famous All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896.

After the merchant's death, the building stood empty for several years before being converted into a pioneer palace. Over the years, Bugrov's estate lost its park, fountain, staircase leading from the second floor directly to the street, as well as its heating and sewage systems. In 2007, reconstruction and repair work began on the building. Today, Bugrov's mansion in Volodarsk has been restored and houses a historical museum.
