The Kurchatov Local History Museum was founded in March 1998. It is truly a people's museum, as all its exhibits were collected by the museum staff during scientific expeditions and by the residents of the city.

The uniqueness of the Kurchatov Museum lies in its exhibition, which closely connects the ancient history of the Kursk region with the history of the construction of the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, one of ten in Russia, and the city of nuclear workers, Kurchatov. Ordinary items and facts from the lives of the townspeople here transform into history.

The museum's collections number over 30,000 items. The most significant collection, "Archaeology," was created thanks to many years of excavations at the Stone Age site complex "Byki." Special attention is drawn to the collections of "Applied Art" and "Ethnography." The pride of the museum is its collections of folk costumes from the Kursk province and a unique collection of traditional leather toys. The museum multifacetedly represents the chronicle of the construction of the Kursk NPP and the 50-year history of the satellite city of Kurchatov.

The Kurchatov Museum is a serious scientific institution engaged in research on various historical topics.
