The Kuragin District Local History Museum was founded in September 1964 based on the Kuragin eight-year school. In 1969, an additional room for the museum was added to the school, and by the decision of the District Executive Committee, it was granted the status of "District People's Local History Museum."

Today, the museum occupies part of a building that previously belonged to the trading house of merchant and gold miner Nikolai Pavlovich Pashennykh. Currently, it is a municipal budget institution with three branches: the Historical and Local History Museum in the village of Beryozovskoye, the Mountain and Geological Museum, and the A. M. Koshurnikov Museum.

The museum's collections include over 23,000 items covering all historical periods of the Kuragin District's development. The main collection consists of about 17,000 units represented by various collections: painting, graphics, sculpture, archaeology, numismatics, decorative and applied arts, everyday life, and natural science exhibits. It also houses numerous photo documents and unique items from the 19th century. Currently, the museum does not have a permanent exhibition, but it is actively engaged in exhibition activities. Visitors are offered museum lessons, field trips, temporary exhibitions, and displays from both its own collection and those of other museums and private collections.
