Fort Red Hill was one of the powerful defensive structures of the Kronstadt fortress. Unlike other forts, it was built during World War I and completed in 1915, so it did not participate in the defense against external enemies, but found itself at the center of revolutionary events.

Construction began in 1909 under the leadership of General Apollon Alexeyevich Shishkin, with engineer Savrimovich as one of the main developers. This was a unique case of placing a defensive structure away from the fortress, which was considered an effective solution. The fort housed over seven thousand people, had powerful coastal artillery, and concrete protection. In 1918, the Bolsheviks destroyed the fortifications, and the fort was threatened by the Germans. It was decided to blow it up in case the Germans approached, but soon a separate peace was concluded, negating all sacrifices.

After the war, the fort was supposed to become a powerful weapon in the hands of the Bolsheviks, but its garrison was the first to rise in rebellion in support of Yudenich's army, which was advancing on Petrograd. Only significant inequality in forces and luck saved the Bolsheviks from defeat. In 1921, the sailors of Kronstadt, disillusioned with the communists, raised a rebellion. Fort Red Hill came under the control of punitive units of Tukhachevsky, and its guns opened fire on the fortress, which was soon captured.

Today, Fort Red Hill is disarmed and functions as a museum, accessible to all who wish to visit. Its walls preserve the memory of the bloody events of the early last century.
