Local History Museum in Sharya

Фото 1
The Sharya Local History Museum, established in 1971, is now part of the State Budgetary Institution of Culture "Kostroma Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve." It is located on the central street of the city of Sharya and actively welcomes guests, hosting various events for schoolchildren, students, and residents, playing an important social role. The museum implements 11 programs aimed at the spiritual, moral, and patriotic education of youth.

The museum's collections include over 10,000 exhibits. Notably, the collection of photographs stands out for its thematic diversity. Among them is an album by P.N. Maltsev from 1916 with 54 photographs depicting the lives of soldiers and officers on the fronts of World War I, as well as photographs from the album of Maina Volkonskaya, the granddaughter of V.F. Luginin, reflecting the life of peasants and forest crafts in the Christmas volost. Equally interesting are the photographs capturing the history of Sharya's development.

Thanks to the expeditions of the museum staff to the villages of the Sharya district, the collection has been enriched with items from peasant crafts: products of carpentry and cooperage, boats, spinning wheels, sewing supplies, wooden dishes, agricultural tools, as well as items from bast-making, felting, pottery, and weaving production.

Of particular interest is the weaving collection, which includes handwoven patterned sundresses and skirts, tablecloths made from coarse fabric, icon wraps with ends decorated with coarse stitching, embroidery, and knitted lace.
