The Lyubim Historical and Local History Museum began its work on January 15, 1971, and today has a collection of approximately 3,000 exhibits.

The local history department of the museum includes nine exhibitions.

The exhibition "History of the City" is dedicated to the founding of Lyubim, the saints of the region, as well as its connections with Tsar Ivan the Terrible and the Master of the Livonian Order, Fürstenberg. Here you can see a model of the Lyubim fortress at a scale of 1:100, a sculptural composition of "Ivan the Terrible," armor of a Russian warrior from the 16th century, cannonballs, and other exhibits.

The exhibitions "Folk Crafts" and "Peasant Life" tell about the lives of local residents, their traditions, and occupations. Here you can find the interior of a 19th-century peasant hut, clothing, household items, tools, and products made by local craftsmen.

The exhibition "Tools of Labor" showcases peasant tools such as a plow, harrow, winnower, flax breaker, and comb, which illustrate the hard work of peasants.

The exhibition "Measures and Weights" introduces visitors to the ancient system of measures, including various scales, balances, arshins, and liquid measures.

The exhibition "Culture and Art" is dedicated to famous writers and journalists born in Lyubim, such as L. N. Trefolev, Yu. V. Zhadovskaya, A. I. Ivanov-Klassik, L. M. Leonov, S. A. Voronin, and I. The exhibition "Soviet Period" highlights the construction of socialism in the region, collectivization, achievements, and repressions. It features photographs, documents, as well as authentic exhibits such as a Nagant revolver, a saber, a Budyonovka hat, communist party flags, and pioneer attributes.

The exhibition "Great Patriotic War" includes photographs of veterans, their orders and medals, uniforms and weapons of Soviet and German soldiers, telling about the feats of Soviet warriors, among whom there are eleven Heroes of the Soviet Union and a holder of three Orders of Glory from the Lyubim district.

The exhibition "Modern Lyubim" is represented by a diorama of the modern city and tells about the history and present of institutions, organizations, and enterprises in the city and district.

The antique furniture department, opened in December 2005, includes furniture from the late 17th and 20th centuries. The exhibition "Merchant Life" consists of furniture in the styles of Classicism and Neorococo, complemented by an antique stove, paintings, and musical instruments. Another exhibition in the department includes bent beech furniture from the "Thonet" company, a collection of sewing machines, and a gramophone; the walls of the hall are decorated with antique clocks and embroideries by local craftswomen.

The nature department is based on the diorama "Wildlife of the Lyubim Region." It also includes the museum's geological and paleontological collections, information about rare plants and mushrooms, the natural resources of the region, thematic maps, schemes, a collection of minerals, and an aquarium with fish.

In August 1994, an art gallery was opened in the museum, primarily featuring works by the artist G. A. Milkova. Currently, the museum displays paintings by several dozen artists of various genres and styles, most of which are exhibited on a permanent basis. The exhibition hall, opened in 2004, allows for not only exhibitions of museum collections but also temporary exhibitions of painting, sculpture, applied arts, and folk crafts.
