The museum occupies a historic merchant building from the early 20th century since 1999. It is a two-story wooden structure with steam heating. The total area of the museum is 300.8 sq. m, of which 199.3 sq. m is allocated for exhibitions and displays, and 22.8 sq. m is designated for storage of collections.
The museum was founded in the 1970s as a school museum, thanks to A. G. Yukov. The district local history museum opened in September 2000.
The museum's exhibition is organized thematically and chronologically, starting from the settlement of the region and ending in the 20th century. The main sections include "Archaeology," "Orthodoxy and Society," "War Years," "Modern Kaduy," and "Circle of Life." There are also complexes such as "Birth," "Kute," "Weaving," and "Forge," presented with unique exhibits. Each complex is decorated with its own color scheme.
