The Belozersk Regional Local History Museum was founded in 1976 based on a folk museum created by teacher and local historian R.A. Novikova. Currently, the museum's collections hold 21,500 items.
Among the exhibits, one can find an extensive collection of documentary sources, archaeological finds, ceramics, textiles, metalwork, as well as ancient Russian and contemporary painting, graphics, and natural science materials. The museum's exhibitions and displays are housed in five buildings: the "Historical Belozersk" Museum, the White Lake Museum, the "Russian Hut" Museum, the House-Museum of poet Sergey Orlov, and the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral of the 17th century with its unique carved iconostasis.
